Microsoft Office 2010 is now available for consumers everywhere, with many enhancements including social networking, a more integrated user interface, and a stronger unified communications platform. Microsoft has created a stronger office suite where each part seamlessly integrates into the next allows users to work and operate on an enhanced and heightened level of productivity. There are many new options and utilities available to spice up your various documents, videos, and images.

There are new text effects you can add to your various PowerPoint, Excel, and Word files. The new Word Art effects spruce up your text without making it appear as a graphic. The text itself is still edible, spell checks can be applied against the text, and the font of the text can still be altered. To access the new font effects execute the Font dialog box and choose the Text Effects button to bring up a whole new set of font options.

Within Word and Publisher you can create a style of handwriting to your fonts. Once again by bringing up the Font dialog box, and choosing the Advanced tab you will have access for custom spacing between characters, also called kerning, new ligatures, and new stylistic fonts sets that will give you the look of calligraphy. Through the process of experimentation, and the twenty styles that are default, you can determine which style works best for you.

Images can now be cropped and edited on the fly within PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Office 2010 now has a stronger set of image editing utilities allowing you to edit and process your images within the suite. Once you insert the image in the document at your chosen location the Picture Tool ribbon automatically activates. By using the new tool and Live Preview which is activated by hovering over the image effect, you can determine how you want your image to appear. A Correction button allows you to view sharpening and exposure edits, the Cropping button allows you to crop your photo while it is in place, while the Remove Background button will clear any backgrounds you do not desire.

Artistic effects in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word will provide the ability to edit your photo and make it look more like a drawing or a painting. From the Picture Tools ribbon choose the Artistic Effects button and hover the mouse cursor over the desired effect to view it. You also have the option to use different transparencies and intensities of your chosen effect through the Artistic Effects Option button located at the bottom of the preview section.

Screenshot insertion is very easy and can be accomplished within Publisher, OneNote, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. From the Insert tab choose the Screenshot button from the Illustrations grouping to view a window that will display all of your open windows. Choose the window you desire to capture a screen shot and it will appear in the document of your choice, and ready for you to edit as necessary. You even have the ability to insert part of your screen. By minimizing your current Office application and maximizing the desired screenshot, you will then maximize Office and choose Screenshot from the Illustrations grouping on the Insert tab, and choose Screen Clipping from the bottom of the window. You will now see a frosted over view, allowing you to use the mouse cursor and select the desired capture area.

PowerPoint 2010 contains enhanced video utilities as you now have the ability to embed a local video file without the bundling of additional files in your original .pptx file. By choosing the file tab and looking at the Backstage View you will bring up an Info page with the heading Media Size and Performance. By choosing the Compress Media button you will have the option to reduce the size of the file as well as the video quality in order to save space. After you play back the file and determine the quality has decreased more than you desire, you can always change back to a larger file size and higher quality.

By executing your presentation on a computer that is connected to the Internet, you have the ability to use a video that is located on a website. By copying the embedded code from the website and choosing the Insert tab from the ribbon and then the Video button located in the Media grouping, you will be presented with the option to choose Video from Website. Now you can paste your embedded code in your presentation. At present, this feature can only be used in the 32-bit version of Microsoft Office, as Adobe has yet to create a 64-bit version of Flash that will support web video playback. There are also video editing tools within PowerPoint 2010 that will allow you to operate on your movies and videos without using third party applications. When doing so you will have two new Video Tools ribbon tabs named Format and Playback. The Format tab will allow you to adjust the exposure and contrast of your video and allow you to display your video in various geometric shapes and to be able to create various frame effects. The Playback tab will allow you to trim your video or movie clip while leaving the original unchanged. You also have the option to add bookmarks, add fade ins, fade outs, and allow you to either loop the video or rewind it.

PowerPoint 2010 also allows you to apply animations and transitions to your presentation slides. Live Preview also works in this instance. There is also an Animation Painter which will let you copy and animation and then apply that copy to various objects in other slides.
